What You Really Need to Know About PRP
Better Concentrations Deliver Better Results
Not all PRP is the same. APEX Biologix’s PRP Concentration System offers the best processing technique to maximize patient outcomes. The APEX Biologix system creates a highly concentrated injectate of platelets and growth factors, which can be up to 16 times the baseline concentration of platelets obtained in a 7 mL treatment.
We offer several different options of systems to fit varying situations of clinics and physician specialists. From our 2-spin, highly concentrated PRP system, to our 5-minute, single spin PRP solution system, we have one that will work for your needs. With all of our systems, we provide training videos and remote training if needed.
What the Final Platelet Should Look Like After Processing
PRP for Aesthetic Therapies
PRP has been used aesthetically, all over the world, in a variety of ways.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is plasma with many more platelets than what is typically found in blood. A high-quality PRP system can concentrate platelets 6-10 times greater than what is usual in blood. The platelets contain growth factors such as platelet-derived growth factor, epidermal growth factor (EGF), fibroblast growth factor, and connective tissue growth factor. Blood is drawn from the patient and is then placed in a centrifuge to spin at high speeds. This allows the platelet-rich plasma to separate from the blood. The PRP is then injected into the affected area. Targeted delivery of these growth factors to injured tissues can accelerate and promote the healing cascade within your body.
Platelet-rich plasma is injected into the appropriate areas with very small needles and the high platelet concentration stimulates the growth of new collagen, revitalizes skin tissue and leads to naturally smooth and firm skin. PRP treatments get rid of wrinkles and creates a smoother skin feel and tone. PRP injection treatments are becoming a preferred facial rejuvenation method due to their overall enhancement and natural appearance.
Microneedling with PRP has been used to minimize the appearance of scarring and stretch marks. The usage of microneedling is to initiate collagen synthesis. This has been achieved by causing minute injury to the dermis with the use of microneedles. The needles used are so fine and thin that tissue damage is almost nonexistent. The “nerve stimulus,” transmitted by electrical signals, triggers the cascade of the healing process, discharging growth signals to cells.
- PRP treatments can be used on all skin types and tones
- Minimal swelling, bruising, and redness within the first 12-24 hrs
- Patients will notice improvement in skin texture and tone within 3 weeks
Fibroblasts migrate to the pinpricks initiating wound closure. This natural tissue remodeling continues for 8 weeks to 1 year and patients notice a difference within the first 3 weeks of injection.
PRP for Hair Growth
PRP contains many growth factors that stimulate the hair follicle’s growth by increasing blood circulation and supplying needed nutrients. PRP is injected on the scalp or it can be rubbed on the scalp after a dermaroller (skin needling device with multiple little surgical needles) treatment is used in the areas which suffer from hair loss. The treatment not only promotes hair growth but strengthens the hair follicles as well. Those with thinning hair, and people with androgenetic alopecia (hair loss at the top of the scalp and a receding hairline particularly along the temples-male patterned baldness), women with male pattern alopecia can all benefit from these treatments.

Cutting edge techniques in modern medicine allows us to extract stem cells from bone marrow, concentrate them through a lab process and then re-inject them directly into the injured tissues in different areas of the body.
PRP and stem cells are used to help repair the tissue, calm osteoarthritic symptoms and decrease inflammation, implement healing in injured tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints, and can be applied to various musculoskeletal problems These treatments have the ability to slow down the loss of cartilage within a joint, preventing further wear on the flexible tissues at the end of a bone. PRP is also useful in decreasing the amount of pain and stiffness while improving the patient’s ability to function.
Patients have been opting for PRP and stem cell treatments as a less invasive alternative to undergoing surgery. When the PRP is injected directly into the afflicted area it will generate a response in the joint to stimulate the formation of new cartilage as well as inhibit inflammation and slow down the progression of osteoarthritis. Patients are far less vulnerable to the risks that accompany surgeries when treated with PRP, such as the chance of infection and blood clotting.
PRP for Wound Care
In the case of wound care, PRP is injected directly into the affected area. Targeted delivery of these growth factors to injured tissues can accelerate and promote the healing cascade within your body.
PRP treatments for wound care are becoming more common and a viable choice amongst patients who are looking for shortened hospital stays, cost efficient/shortened treatments, and an improvement in one’s quality of life.
The anti-inflammatory properties of PRP play an important role in wound healing. PRP not only releases large quantities of platelet growth factors to enhance the healing process, it also possesses antimicrobial properties that may contribute to the prevention of infections.
Leukocytes are at high levels in PRP because the density of leukocytes are similar to that of the platelets. During the centrifuge process both platelets and leukocytes drop into the same layer of the centrifuge tube. Advantages of PRP for wound treatment include the biocompatible safety of using the patient’s own blood. As well as the significant clinical effectiveness and simple preparation, PRP treatments have become an ideal therapy in the treatment of chronic skin related wounds.
Stem Cell Therapy
Stem cell therapy has some of the most exciting treatment potential in medicine today. Stem cells are the body’s master cells. They are undifferentiated cells which allow them to develop into other types of cells that are required to repair or replace damaged tissue. Stem cells can stimulate the formation of cartilage, tendon, ligaments, bone and fibrous connective tissues. Stem cells have been clinically and scientifically proven to effectively treat most chronic pain conditions, accelerate the healing, and reduce scarring.
A high volume of stem cells is obtained from the patient’s own bone marrow or fat tissue (adipose). Once the stem cells have been concentrated, they are injected into damaged areas of the body to promote regeneration and healing. These therapies are a safe, nonsurgical treatment option for most chronic pain conditions, wound care, and aesthetic abnormalities.
Better Concentrations Deliver Better Results
Not all stem cell therapy procedures or concentrating processes are the same. APEX Biologix’s Stem Cell Concentration System offers the best processing technique to maximize patient outcomes. The APEX Biologix system creates a highly concentrated injectate of stem cells and growth factors.

An Advancement in Regenerative Medicine
Amniotic tissue advancements provide the opportunity for a superior, less invasive alternative to more traditional steroid treatments. Our allograft line of products is carefully constructed from a purified human source.
What are the Healing Properties of Allograft Products?
These allografts contain a unique mix of bioactive substances such as collagen, as well as other proteins, growth factors, and cells recognized as important in the healing process.
Allograft tissues have been shown clinically and scientifically to support soft tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and minimize scar tissue formation. It also has reported anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fibrotic properties whose characteristics make amniotic allografts an attractive wound biomaterial.
What does an Allograft Procedure Involve?
The simple procedure avoids the complicated and potentially dangerous nature of surgical procedures, but can also be used in conjunction with surgery to significantly reduce inflammation and speed the healing process.
Cord Blood Tissue
Cord blood is a cryopreserved non particulate injectable derived from the umbilical cord. As a biological healing matrix, it contains a variety of growth factors, cytokines, hyaluronic acid, extracellular matrix, (ECM), and viable cellular materials (mesenchymal stromal cells). Cord tissue is reported to have anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, epithelialization and anti-fibrotic properties.
APEX Biologix partners with a biotechnology company specializing in the culture and engineering of adult stem cells by which we develop innovative products and therapies that are used in aesthetics, wound closure, and healing, as well as treating damaged joints.
The amniotic membrane and amniotic fluid provide biologic and physiologic properties, and act as a physical barrier to cover and protect the fetus during pregnancy. The amniotic membrane is the innermost layer of the placenta, which provides nourishment to and maintains an unborn child. Amniotic fluid is the liquid surrounding the fetus. The APEX Biologix line of products harnesses the powerful biologic properties and regenerative power of amniotic tissues to provide a healing matrix and promote regeneration to damaged areas of the body.
Amniotic tissue is a rich source of various biologically active elements involved in tissue regeneration with reported anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, epithelialization, and anti-fibrotic properties, making it an attractive biomaterial for homologous use in outpatient clinic or surgical procedures.
Safety & Quality
All allograft products are derived from tissues acquired from living, healthy donors after full term pregnancy and a scheduled Caesarean section (C-section). Donors are healthy women between the ages of 18-45 years, and who are thoroughly screened for communicable diseases. A careful medical and social history is collected in advance to ensure that mothers meet all eligibility requirements.
Allograft products preserve the placenta and fluid, which are typically discarded. All tissues are then tested to ensure viability and safety. Once tested, these tissues are processed to the highest standards in a state-of-the-art American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) accredited facility, and allografts are subjected to stringent USP testing prior to release. From aseptic processing to lot release testing of all of our tissues, we are committed to the safety and quality of our products.
Studies have described the placental tissues as “immune privileged” because they rarely evoke an immune response in the human body. This reduces the risk of an adverse immune reaction. Amniotic tissue also has reported anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-fibrotic properties.
Common injuries treated with allograft tissues:
- Repetitive Motion Injuries
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Soft Tissue Injuries
- Muscle Tears
- Inflamed Nerves
